Not only are tinted car windows the ultimate cool vehicle accessory; they may just save your life. New Zealand pharmacy group, Care Chemist, has said that car window tinting is one of the main protective measures drivers can take against skin cancer. According to Care Chemist, sitting in a car subjects a person to potentially dangerous levels of UVA radiation from the sun. Even when the windows are closed, says Care Chemist, dangerous UVA rays can still penetrate through the glass.
Astonishingly, a recent report from the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology claims it is the driver who always tends to be subject of most of the UVA ray penetration; suffering as much as a six-fold exposure over front seat passengers to those parts of the head, arm, neck and hand facing the door. This increased risk, says Care Chemist, applies regardless of which side the steering wheel is located.
The report also claims that men are more frequently victims than women of skin cancer directly attributable to vehicular UVA penetration. Fortunately, according to Care Chemist, one of the ‘most effective and recommended’ defence measures against solar radiation is an investment in car window tinting.
Whilst Rochdale and other UK cities might not always reach the high temperatures of the Antipodes, it is worth remembering that even modest sunshine can be deceptively dangerous. Care Chemist’s car window darkening prescription against solar radiation may well be added to the many great reasons why UK car drivers are opting for window tinting.
